What's Happening... Now!
It's been awhile since I've said much about vGBX, so I thought now would be as good a time as any.
Although it's not perfect, work on vGBX is still continuing. Most of the original greyscale GB games work, and a large amount of the black-cartridge GBC games work. There's some issues with the clear-cartridge GBC games, although we don't plan to launch GBC support out of the box. Many of the best games for the system work currently, and accessory support is still being ironed out. (It's just not Pokemon if you can't battle your friends.)
We've learned a lot through testing. Apparently, I'm the only one who liked Alleyway. The Super Game Boy is a big pain in the ass. In Japan, they had a device called "Mobile System GB" that allowed you to connect your Game Boy to your phone. We figured out what the Gold Leaf and Silver Leaf were supposed to be for in the Pokemon games.
The issue, as it stands, is that we currently have about 60 Game Boy games. To put that in perspective for you, the Game Boy + Color lasted from 1989 to 2002. In America, slightly over 900 games were released for it in that time frame, over half of which were grayscale games for the original GB. We're very far behind in collecting games for the system, and I think we'd be ridiculed if vGBX launched with 60 games, so I'm going to delay the launch.
If you've got some Game Boy games sitting around that you'd like to donate, please, find them, and do so. I understand that a lot of you are a little weary about donating games for something you haven't seen yet, and so, if you look just a few pixels below, you'll see some screenshots. Or, thumbnails. Click those to see them at full size.
Thank you, everyone, for your continued support of vNES and vGBX, and our future products.
